After several delays, the new Payment Services Directive is expected to enter into force no earlier than May 1, 2018.
The Payment Services Directive (PSD2) implies that banking customers - both private customers and companies - can allow third-party providers to deliver financial services to them. Banks are required to provide these third-party providers access to their clients’ accounts through open application programming interfaces, so-called APIs. This allows third party suppliers to use the banks' data and infrastructure as a platform for their financial services.
